Men’s Senior County Championships – Open Coaching and Trials‏

This year, once again, Clive Morris (Head coach), James Hewitt (Brains/Hewy) assistant coach and Adam Innocent (Captain) are organising the Nottinghamshire Men’s County side for the County Championships in 2014.

After a disappointing campaign last season, Nottinghamshire are looking to rebuild. The preliminary tournament will be held on 10th/11th May 2014 at Deeside Ramblers HC.

Please can you pass this information on to all male players within your club and emphasise to those players likely to come along that the first two training sessions and selection are fully open to all, AND FREE.

This is a great opportunity to train alongside some different people to usual, maybe learn some new skills and maybe challenge yourself.

With Notts clubs fairing well this season we are hoping to represent as diverse a spread of the County teams as possible.

The training/selection session dates for your diary are…..

Tuesday 8th April –7:00pm to 8:30pm – Open to all
Tuesday 15th April – 7:00pm to 8:30pm – Open to all

Tuesday 29th April – 7:00pm to 8:30pm – Training Match v Lincolnshire – Final squad only
Tuesday 6th May –7:00pm to 8:30pm – Final squad only

All training is at Highfields on the Water.

Please try to arrive 15 minutes early to all of the sessions so we can maximise the pitch time.

As mentioned earlier, the preliminary tournament for entry into Finals day will be held at Deeside Ramblers HC on 10th – 11th May 2013. An overnight stay will be required and will be supported by the County Association.

If we finish in the top 2 of the group we will qualify for the Semi-Final / Final on Saturday 31st May at Old Loughtonians, where another overnight stay is probable and, as before, will be supported by the Association.

To qualify to play for Nottinghamshire you must fill one of the following criteria;

  1. Play for a Nottinghamshire affiliated club
  2. Live in Nottinghamshire
  3. Attend a School or University affiliated to Nottinghamshire
  4. Have been born in Nottinghamshire

Criteria will be applied in the above order of preference.

Please feel free to invite others along to the training sessions if they meet the above criteria.

Can we also ask that players e-mail Clive so we have rough idea on our many players are coming c.morris23@ntlworld.com

Nottinghamshire HA Chairman’s Team

Please see the below from our Chairman;

To All Men’s clubs Nottinghamshire Hockey Association

Dear All, I have been invited to field a Nottinghamshire HA Chairman’s team to play a warm-up match against the Notts U17 boys JAC squad and would like to have representatives playing from as many Notts men’s clubs as possible. The team can be of any age group but please let me know if you are nominating anyone U18. Feel free to nominate several players if you wish. I do need 16 or even 18! I have Umpires already (surprise).

The match is on Friday 28/2/14 7.00-9.00pm on the SAND DRESSED pitch at Highfields. There will be no cost to the players and some County colours shirts will be available for them to play in.

I appreciate it is the day before most of you will play league hockey however I would welcome nominations from your club on the attached form. I don’t intend to wear your players out!

It will be welcome practice for the boys and a good opportunity for a player from your club (or two) to enjoy some social but hopefully competitive hockey in a different environment.

Please give it strong consideration and fill in and return the form as soon as possible and definitely by 14th February at the latest. If you want to say no then do please let me know that so I don’t start chasing the reply.

Regards & best wishes

Andy

This has gone out to all Club Secretaries with Men’s sections.  If you want to play, put your name forwards!

Phil Wyville – 1984-2013

It is with great sadness that Notts Hockey reports that Phil Wyville, of North Notts Hockey Club, has lost his long battle with cancer at the age of just 28.

Phil was a promising junior and, even when diagnosed, continued to turn out regularly when he could, at whatever level spaces were available.  During one of his remission periods he also took on the captains role for one of the teams I played for.

His ‘never give up’ attitude and drive to help anyone and everyone that he could, meant I was honoured the he received the NNHCs Endeavour Award in my final season as club president.

Although I may have moved on from NNHC I still have many friends there, as I know did Phil, and he will be sorely missed by us all.

Taken far too early, he leave a wife, Sam and baby daughter, Maisie.  Our thoughts are with them and the rest of their families at this time.

L1 Coaching Course at Manor Sports Centre – HURRY CLOSING DATE SOON!

Please see attached an application form for a Hockey Level One Coaching Course which is running at Manor Sports Centre in Mansfield – please circulate this around your club and to anyone you know who might be interested in attending. Please note, candidates must be aged 16 on the 1st day of the course to attend.

Application forms need to be sent to Elaina Leithead, England Hockey, The Hockey Pavilion, Loughborough University, Ashby Road, Loughborough, LE11 3TU (along with the consent form if under 18) or email to midlands@englandhockey.co.uk.

The Nottinghamshire Hockey Development Group has secured a small amount of funding to financially assist people who attend this particular course and who are coaching in clubs within Nottinghamshire. I have negotiated with England Hockey to exclusively open this course to Nottinghamshire clubs until Friday 6th September – please note after this date the course will be open to anyone across the country. Due to this, and along with England Hockey now having an online payment system for coaching courses, candidates are required to inform Elaina of the contact details of the person making the £160 payment so she can telephone them and take the payment over the phone.

Once booked on the course, The Nottinghamshire Hockey Development Group will be informed of the names of the candidates and on completion of the course, those candidates will be reimbursed some funds – the amount of funding per person will not be confirmed until we know how many complete the course but it will be a minimum of £20.

If you have any queries regarding the course, please contact Elaina directly on 01509 228676 or email midlands@englandhockey.co.uk.
