Talented Coaches Programme 2011-2012

The Nottinghamshire Coach Development Group are looking to identify the most promising coaching talent in the county for inclusion in the Talented Coaches Programme 2011 – 2012.

The programme has run successfully for the last three years and was short listed among the top 3 coaching interventions of the year at the 2008 Sports Coach UK Coaching Awards.

Come ‘Back to Hockey’

September sees the launch of ‘Back to Hockey’ for women who are interested in returning to the game to have fun and get fit.

There are currently no Nottinghamshire clubs registered for the scheme. This is a valuable way to regain former players to the sport who may have given up for any number of reasons.

Level One Umpires Course – October 2011

Further to the Notts Clubs Open Meeting held on 13th July 2011, the Nottinghamshire Hockey Association is organising a Level One Umpires Course during October 2011.

The course has been organised to encourage all Nottinghamshire Hockey Clubs to educate more members as umpires; as this was identified as a focus-area within the meeting. In recognition of the importance of educating more umpires within the county, the NHA has applied a large amount of funding to this course, resulting in candidate fees that are far lower than the national average of £40-£50 per individual. The NHA is also keen to support the umpiring needs of the Notts Women’s Hockey League, so please encourage your female members to apply!

Course Information

Date(s): 6:30 – 9:00pm on Tuesdays 11th & 18th October 2011
Venue: Highfields Sports Centre, Conference Room, University Boulevard, Nottingham, NG7 2PS
Costs: 10 Free Funded places are available to the following clubs who attended the Notts Hockey Assoc. Clubs “Open Meeting” on 13th July 2011 (Please send your voucher(s) along with your application form):

Beeston (2 places) Newark (2 places)
North Notts (1 place) Nott’m Players (1 place)
South Nott’m (2 places) WB Monarchs (2 places)

15 Non-Funded candidates will be charged at £35 each. Candidates who successfully complete all three compulsory elements of the course will have £10 of this fee refunded.

Spaces: There are 25 spaces available on the course. If demand exceeds the amount of non-funded spaces available, clubs may be limited to a number of free spaces.

Inspired Facilities Funding from Sport England

Please see the below information provided to us by Sport Nottinghamshire.

Earlier this week Sport England announced the launch of the first of five rounds of the Inspired Facilities Fund of £10m/round.

This round is receiving applications between 1 August and 26 September 2011

Round 2 will be 1 February to 2 April 2012 and round 3 will run 23 July to 17 September 2012. Rounds 4 & 5 will be announced in 2013

Additional key points of note are as follows:

· Voluntary & community sector projects can apply for £20 – 50k, with no matched funding requirement (no weighting applied at assessment stage to level of any matched funding)

· Local authorities and other statutory bodies can apply for £20 – 150k, with a £ for £ matched funding requirement

· Up to 70% of the funding will go to community projects and up to 30% for public bodies

· Awards of up to £50k require 7 years security of tenure on the facility, £51k – 99k need 10 years and £100 – 150k need 15 years or more

· No equipment only awards but equipment can be included as a part of an application

· Sport England funding is entirely capital but an opportunity to add revenue funding is available through Thomas Cook Children’s Charity who are adding £500k for projects with a particular emphasis on disadvantaged children, with no need for a separate application

Nottinghamshire Community Sports Fund

The 2011 Community Sports Fund is now open for applications. Sports Clubs and organisations can apply for up to £1000 (£1500 if Clubmark accredited). The funding should be used for projects to involve additional people in sport, whether this be playing, coaching or volunteering.

The Loss of Jeremy Allen

It is with deepest regret that Nottinghamshire Hockey Association announces the untimely death of Jeremy Allen.

Jeremy, a former Beeston player and a Vice President of the club, passed away on Tuesday 21st June 2011 having had a heart attack.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends (of which he had many).

When funeral arrangements are known this information will be passed to all members.

ALLEN Jeremy Roger (Solicitor) Suddenly on 21st June 2011 aged 66 years. Beloved husband of Maggie, father to Jonathan, Charlotte and Nicholas and grandfather to Isabelle. A memorial service following private funeral will take place on Thursday 7th July at The Church of St Mary the Virgin, High Pavement, Nottingham NG1 1HF at 2.30pm.
